Tranchess solves a problem that the structured finance industry solved in traditional markets decades ago: not everyone who holds a volatile asset wants the same risk profile, but they all have to accept whatever profile the asset delivers. Launched in mid-2021 on Binance Smart Chain, Tranchess splits a single underlying asset into three tranches that different investors can hold according to their own risk appetite—a senior tranche optimized for stability, a junior tranche for leveraged exposure, and a balanced tranche in between.
The behavioral observation underneath this product is… worth stating plainly. Investors regularly make poor decisions not because they are irrational but because the available instruments do not actually match their actual risk preferences. A DeFi yield farmer who wants BTC exposure with volatility smoothed toward the bottom has very few good options without Tranchess.
